Parents and kids 'can spend time doing outdoor play activities'
25/05/2010 Outdoor play activities are the ideal way for children and parents to spend time together, one expert has suggested.
Polly Beard, author and parenting expert, said that National Family Week, which is taking place between May 31st and June 6th, offers a great opportunity for parents and kids to take part in activities together.
"The national guideline is now that children should have an hour of exercise a day, and it's good for parents to get out and exercise too. We can all do with a bit more exercise in our lives," she added.
Ms Beard's comments come following a poll for the National Family Week which found that the average family spends just 49 minutes per day together, with over half of parents thinking this is an adequate amount of time.
The survey revealed that many mums and dads are concerned about the cost of family activities, however 66 per cent of children were happy to spend time at home as a family.
"Forget the chores and just get on with having a nice time at home," Ms Beard suggested.
