Parents reassured that outdoor play activity areas will stay open
08/04/2010 Parents and children in Carlisle have been assured that the areas in the city for outdoor play activities will be kept open.
The News and Star reports a senior councillor has reassured residents that there are no plans to cut the number of spaces for outdoor play activities by half.
Previously, a council report had warned that there was not enough cash to keep the facilities open and smaller play areas may be closed down.
Ray Bloxham told the news provider: "As far as I am concerned, play areas are safe".
He added that the authority does occasionally get petitions from local residents requesting that an outdoor play area is closed down, but said these are dealt with through a proper assessment criteria.
There are many benefits of outdoor play activities for children.
Recently, Dr Simon Rabinowitz, chief of paediatrics at Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton, told silive.com, that playing outside increases mental alertness, exposes kids to Vitamin D and improves heart health.
