People should build up their outdoor exercise routines
29/03/2010 Those who want to start exercising outdoors should 'walk before they run', according to one expert.
Steve Halsall, Mirror.co.uk fitness expert and fitness entrepreneur, said that people must build up the amount of time spent on their exercise regime to ensure it is not too intense.
He was commenting on the results of a study by researchers at Harvard University published in the journal of the American Medical Association which found that middle aged women need one hour of exercise each day to stay slim.
Mr Halsall said that such a large amount of exercise each day was "a big ask".
He suggested that those who don't have much time to exercise try cross training as it is one of the most effective ways of stimulating your metabolism and burning calories.
"If you are doing an hour a day, then you want to do something different every day. You want to surprise you body as much as you can," he added.
Anik Giguere-Biollo, mum of three and owner of stroller-advisor.com, recently said that trampoline exercise was ideal for busy parents as small amounts can make a big difference.
