Programme aims to get kids exercising outdoors
20/04/2010 A new programme in Wales is aiming to get kids to do more exercise outdoors and eat healthier.
MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do It!) is a ten week scheme aimed at youngsters between seven and ten which aims to help children get fitter while having fun at the same time, reports eGov Monitor.
Helen Matthews, MEND programme manager for Swansea, said: "The MEND Programme is a fun way for children to get fit and healthy and improve their self-esteem. We offer a safe and non-judgemental environment for families to learn how to make healthy choices and become more active."
The programme was inspired by figures which show one in three children in Wales are above a healthy weight.
One way to lose some weight while having fun is to bounce on a mini trampoline, which helps tone muscles and reduce cellulite.
The Weight Losing Ideas blog recently recommended jumping on a mini trampoline for around 15 minutes each day, five or six times per week.
