Silver medallist looks back on missing trampoline gold
27/08/2009 A gymnast has been contemplating a missed opportunity after she missed out on World Championship gold.
Aubree Balkan, a 20-year-old Palomar College student, is among the top members of USA Gymnastics' trampoline and tumbling senior national team, reports the NCTimes.
Later this year, the Trampoline World Championships will be taking place in St Petersburg, Russia.
Ms Balkan recently earned a bronze medal in the double mini trampoline at the World Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, but is ruing her mistakes.
"I sort of lost a skill there, so I think I should have finished second, but it was OK, I was glad I was able to pull it together and medal," Balkan told the news provider.
She added that she had to overcome her nerves as it was the biggest meet she had ever competed in.
Last month's World Games featured approximately 4,500 athletes from 100 countries.
Ms Balkan admits her choice of events is one that often leaves people scratching their heads, as the double mini trampoline is not practiced in enough countries to make it an Olympic event.
