South African wins country's first trampoline gymnastics medal in 28 years
30/11/2010 A South African woman has become the country's first trampoline gymnastics medal winner for 28 years after she won silver at the World Championships in Metz.
Bianca Budler, from Port Elizabeth, is the reigning African Champion in double mini trampoline and tumbling, but lost out to Canadian Corissa Boychuk.
"I like all three disciplines, but for me double mini and tumbling are the most enjoyable. They are more explosive and have more power," she told the Times Live website.
Budler is now looking ahead to qualifying for the Olympic Games in London in 2012.
"I believe I have a chance, being from Africa, but I still need to prove myself and show that I belong there," she added.
Last week, the World Trampoline Age Group Championships took place, with the East Kilbride News reporting that 14-year-old Pamela Clark missed out on a medal after having to alter her routine in mid-flight.
