Stars go for gold in Trampoline World Cup preliminary
07/09/2009 Friday's (September 4th) preliminary rounds of the World Cup meeting in Poland provided some good news for the Canadian trampoline team.
Emily Smith of Ontario and Ashley Speed of Toronto stood first and third, respectively, at the fourth stop on the trampoline and tumbling World Cup circuit in Zielona Gora, Poland, reports the Canadian Press.
Three-time world champion Elerna Chabanenko of Ukraine split the Canadian pair, coming in second, with the top eight competitors advancing to the next round, ahead of the world tumbling and trampoline championships in Russia in November.
While Speed earned her first career World Cup medal earlier this season with a bronze at the season opening event, Smith's experience has seen her take five career World Cup medals but is still searching for her first gold medal.
In the men's event , Alex Seifert of Calgary, fresh from winning his first career World Cup medal last weekend, is headed to the final again after placing fourth in the preliminaries.
Evgeni Zinukov of Russia leads, with Viktor Kiforenko of Ukraine in second and Kalon Ludvigson of the US third.
