Summer is here: Exercise outdoors, play, have fun
02/07/2010 Parents should lead by example and get their children outdoors for fun and exercise, according to the Vancouver Sun.
Writing in the paper, Jill Barker noted that current statistics show children spend far too much time lazing before the television.
"Statistics suggest children age eight to 13 spend up to six hours a day in front of a screen," she said.
Ms Barker recommends outdoor play activities as a healthy response to those fond of their lazy bones.
But she warned to keep outdoor activities fun and interesting.
Cycling, hiking, and swimming are all outdoor activities suitable for the summer, she said.
And, according to Steve Halsall of mirror.co.uk, now is a great time to head outside for fresh air and exercise.
"The trends are suggesting that cycling, running, walking and triathlons even are massive growth areas so people are dropping their gym memberships and going outside more and using outside facilities which is a good thing," he said.
