Sun protection important when exercising outdoors
11/02/2011 As the first glimmers of sunshine begin to appear across Britain, an expert has stressed the importance of wearing adequate protection when exercising outdoors or allowing the children to play on garden trampolines.
Bevis Man, from the British Skin Foundation, said he would never advise people to go out in bright sunlight purely for tanning or sunbathing, though did give some tips to those enjoying the benefits of outdoor play in the coming months.
"A first line of defence should always be to cover up the skin with loose clothing. Wear a hat that covers the ears and back of the neck - two areas that are frequently missed when applying sunscreen," he added.
Mr Man also urged families to wear UV-protective sunglasses and plenty of high-factor sun cream when exercising outdoors on their garden trampolines while the sun is in the sky.
Earlier this week, the boxer Amir Khan said that young people represent the "future of sport" and should therefore be encouraged to embrace the benefits of outdoor play from a young age.
