Taking part in more outdoor exercise most common new year's resolution

05/01/2010
More than half of people have pledged to do more exercise or outdoor activities and lose weight as their new year's resolution, according to new research.

In a survey commissioned by the dairy brand Clover, 55 per cent of people said that they would be making an effort to become healthier in 2010.

Celebrities are also including taking more time to exercise on their list of new year's resolutions. The singer and actress Mandy Moore recently told Shape magazine that she wants to use her home exercise equipment more this year and will spend 15 minutes on her mini trampoline after attending her Pilates class.

However, despite their good intentions, less than half of people stick to their new year's resolution past the first week of January.

Nathan King, from Clover, said: "The research has shown that most people are one extreme or the other when it comes to new year resolutions – they either don’t make them at all or make over-ambitious resolutions without much success."

Those who have good intentions but often fail to make it to the gym might improve their chances by investing in a mini trampoline like Mandy Moore. As well as being compact and easy to store, jumping on a mini trampoline is one of the most efficient forms of exercise and can be done in the comfort of your living room.
