Toddlers receive new outdoor play equipment
13/07/2010 Toddlers at a pre-school club in Farnworth now get to experience the benefits of outdoor play activities thanks to a series of improvements.
Cash from the Sure Start Early Years and Child Care Grant has been used to improve the outdoor play area at the New Bury Community Centre, the Bolton News reports.
Outdoor play equipment that was purchased with the money includes a sand pit and a water area. Murals painted on boards have also been put up in the outdoor space.
Bernadette Tither, the manager of the centre, told the news provider that the children are already beginning to feel the benefits of outdoor play activities.
"The children absolutely love it. The big success has been the outdoor water area. The children are learning to socialise with other children and they are also learning to be independent," she explained.
Dee Point County Primary School in Chester also invested in outdoor play equipment in the past few years, which has helped significantly improve its Ofsted rating, Chester First reported.
David Williams, head teacher at the school, told the news provider the equipment had "enhanced learning and play opportunities and encouraged physical exercise overall".
