Trampoline clown enters hall of fame
02/11/2009 A rodeo clown will have his name go into the record books thanks to his trampoline efforts.
One of the Western US's most respected rodeo clowns, Butch Lehmkuhler of North Platte, has been entered in to the Ellensburg, Washington Rodeo Hall of Fame, reports the North Platte Bulletin.
His trampoline routine involves bouncing 50 ft in the air and entertaining crowds at rodeos around the US, even after 30 years.
Butch Lehmkuhler told the audience as he accepted his award: "It is very flattering and humbling to be appreciated by a community in this way."
Ellensberg hosts the biggest Labor Day rodeo in the United States on the first Monday in September and Mr Lehmkuhler was one of the star clowns at the event for nearly ten years.
He got serious about rodeo in 1988, taking a year's leave of absence from teaching to pursue his goal of becoming a clown at the National Finals Rodeo before being named Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Clown of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 1991
