Trampoline clubs offered new lease of life in Lancashire
08/03/2011 Sporting and play activities for young people in Lancashire have been given a double boost after two trampoline clubs were offered new homes.
According to the Lancashire Evening Post, the Preston City Trampoline Club has been granted the go-ahead to transform a warehouse on Blackpool Road, Ashton, into a spacious new facility.
Similarly, the City of Preston Gymnastics Club has also been given permission to convert a warehouse, on Campbell Street, into a new venue for young people to feel the benefits of exercising on trampolines and gym equipment.
Councillor Robert Boswell had urged planners to agree to the relocations, claiming that the clubs' existing premises – surrounded by heavy traffic - posed a safety risk to children, while the new buildings were in a much quieter.
"The traffic, at times, is non-existent. The times the club will be using it, most of the businesses will have shut down. I'm convinced the danger is non-existent and should be ignored," he said.
Last week, celebrity trainer Steve Halsall said that with so many free outdoor play activities available to families across the UK, there was "no excuse" for people young and old not to be exercising regularly.
