Trampoline event added to university sports championship
15/01/2010 A trampoline event has been added to the list of sports which will be represented at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships in 2010.
Around 6,000 athletes in their late teens and early 20s will travel to the championships in Sheffield in April to compete in 26 different sports over four days. This will be the first year that the numerous trampoline clubs at UK universities will be able to compete in the event.
Indoor archery is the other sport which has been added to the list.
Karen Rothery, BUCS chief executive, said: "The addition of trampolining and indoor archery to the BUCS Championships programme is a hugely positive step and illustrates our desire to continue developing the scope of the event to include as many students and sporting disciplines as possible."
The move by BUCS follows the great performance of the British trampoline team at the World Championships in St Petersburg, Russia last year. James Higgins made it through to the final in the men's event and eventually finished in seventh place.
Dominic Swaffer, Jason Plowman and Matthew Swaffer put in the best performance for the UK, coming third in the men's double mini trampoline team final.
