Trampoline exercise 'a safe way to better fitness'
13/01/2011 Not only are trampolines for the garden a lot of fun – enjoyed by adults and children alike – but they also allow families to feel the benefits of exercising outdoors safely.
In addition to trampoline safety enclosures, which help reduce the chance of an accident when pursuing outdoor play activities, there are a number of ways in which the household can avoid harm while boosting their fitness.
As a starting point, Emma Malcolm, chief executive of Prostate Action, warned families against rushing too quickly into their new healthy lifestyle, instead advising people to embrace their trampoline workout gradually.
"It is unwise for anyone … to race headlong into an intensive fitness regime without some preparation. If you have been living a relatively sedentary life and want to change your lifestyle, that's fantastic, but take it slowly," she advised.
Earlier this week, 43-year-old mother of four Jean Pike, from South Shields, in the north east of England, told the Jarrow and Hebburn Gazette how a garden trampoline had helped her lose 3st 3lb in just 23 weeks.
