Trampoline exercise 'can help combat Restless Legs Syndrome'
09/02/2010 Jumping on a mini trampoline in the evening could help those suffering with Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS).
The Guardian reports that around five to ten per cent of the adult population has the condition, which makes it almost impossible for them to keep their legs still while resting.
Symptoms of the condition include "burning, creeping, itching, aching or tugging sensations in the legs" which can only be relieved through movement.
The condition makes sitting still for long periods of time, such as at the cinema or on a long haul flight, very difficult.
Dawn, who has had RLS for 20 years, told the newspaper: "It can get unbelievably infuriating in the evenings. The more tired I am, the worse it is...I've set up a mini-trampoline in the front room and I get on and off it when we're watching TV."
Trampoline exercise is recognised as having a number of benefits, including improved balance, coordination and muscle tone.
Lifestyle changes, including cutting out caffeine and alcohol, and medication can also provide relief for some people.
