Trampoline star coaches school kids
02/12/2009 One of the country's top trampoline stars has been enlisted to help children from a school in West Yorkshire during their PE lessons, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
Thanks to lottery funding, Honley High School has been able to purchase two new trampolines and safety equipment to add some extra bounce to their PE lessons. In total the school was awarded £8,800 from the Awards for All fund.
Rebekah Taylor, the under 19s grade two British champion, will be helping the children learn the basics on the trampoline. The newspaper reports that the children have already learnt to do tucks, pikes, straddle jumps and somersaults.
Matt Haigh, a PE teacher at the school, told the newspaper: "[Rebekah] is an elite performer, a fantastic coach and an outstanding role model for our students and the girls particularly are really enjoying the sessions and making excellent progress."
He added that the trampolines were helping students who "don't participate in more traditional team games".
There are numerous health benefits gained from jumping on a trampoline. These include better strength, co ordination and balance.
