Trampoline star receives sports award
02/09/2010 A trampoline star's achievements have been celebrated at the South Lanarkshire Sports Awards, helping to promote the sport as a way of exercising outdoors.
East Kirkdale-based Pamela Clark was crowned the best junior performer in the region, East Kilbride News reported.
Another sportsperson from the area also received an award. Ian Welsh was recognised for his contribution to the Torrance House Junior Golf Academy with a coach of the year award.
"I'm pleased to see two awards for East Kilbride and, as I know from our own awards, it's always very difficult to determine a winner in these categories because the talent is of such a high standard," East Kilbride Sports Council chairman Jim Ballantyne told the news provider.
"The representatives from East Kilbride who did miss out shouldn't feel too disheartened because it shows the standard that the winners must have been at to beat them."
At the 2009 event, East Kilbride received six out of the seven awards on offer.
Winners were picked in five fields by the judging panel - which included athlete Brian Whittle and respected sports writer Doug Gillon.
The ceremony at South Lanarkshire Council headquarters also celebrated the outstanding contributions made by Team Lanarkshire during the summer International Children's Games in Manama.
