Trampoline star receives sports award
09/03/2010A young trampoline star has been honoured with an award from Liverpool City Council.
The local authority held its annual sports awards this week and 17-year-old Bradley Hampson took home the award for Young Sports Personality of the Year.
Hampson represented the UK in the World Age Group Championships in St Petersburg last year and has never finished below fourth position in a national competition.
He is currently ranked second for his age group on the trampoline in Britain and first on the synchronised trampoline event with his teammate.
Hampson has got to such a high standard through significant amounts of practice and logs between 25 and 30 hours practice on the trampoline each week.
Council leader Warren Bradley said: ''2009 has been a great year of sporting achievement for Liverpool both for our athletes, coaches and clubs to the city securing a successful role in global sport."
Gymnast Beth Tweddle was presented with a special award for her performance the World Gymnastics Championships last year.
Olivia Sorbie, a coach at the East Kilbride Trampoline Club, is also currently up for an award in her local town for Coach of the Year.
