Trampolines 'provide fitness benefits'
17/05/2010 Trampolines are often neglected by exercisers, however, they can provide a great workout, it has been claimed.
Writing on the Kirsten's Raw blog, nutritionist Rita G said that exercising on a mini trampoline can give people a great aerobic workout and tone their muscles, but as it is so much fun they will hardly feel like they are exercising at all.
She added that one of the most significant benefits of jumping on a trampoline is that it strengthens people's stomach muscles, helping to tone their tummies.
"Each and every time you rebound into the air your body will have to tighten up to support yourself for landing, which will primarily be accomplished by the abdominal muscles tensing up. This constant tensing-relaxing cycle is enough to help strengthen the core and also improve posture in the process," she said.
Rita added that bouncing on a trampoline can also help people improve their coordination and motor skills.
Last week, Terrell Pruitt, an experienced fitness trainer, told Reuters that jumping on a trampoline can be a particularly effective exercise form for women.
