Trampolines 'ultimate garden gym item'
08/06/2010 Trampolines are the "ultimate piece of garden gym equipment", according to the Daily Express.
Gyms in the back garden have been growing in popularity over recent years, however, the equipment people use is a far cry from the exercise bikes and treadmills found at the gym.
Climbing frames, swings, slides and even space hoppers are now all being used by adults looking to tone up their body for summer.
A trampoline was said to be the best piece of equipment for these make-shift gyms, as it improves motor skills, strengthens bones and muscles, tones, boosts the metabolic rate and stimulates the lymphatic system.
Dan Roberts, a personal trainer, told the news provider: "Start by lying down flat on the trampoline and, without using your hands, try to build up momentum so you can stand up... It's a great fun, yet frustrating, core and cardiovascular workout."
Outdoor play activities also have many benefits for children. David Mizejewski from the US National Wildlife Federation said recently that children who do not spend enough time out of doors can experience problems with their development.
