Trampolines and exercising outdoors 'boost children's learning'
27/10/2010 Parents have been told that there are "definite transferable skills" between sport and exercising outdoors, which could include the use of garden trampolines, and academic achievement.
David Mbaziira, head of marketing and communications at Sporting Equals, suggested, however, that parents often rate education higher in importance than the benefits of outdoor play, leading to "potential conflicts".
His comments follow the news that the Department for Education is ending the £162 million PE and Sports Strategy of the previous Labour administration, to give schools the time to concentrate on providing competitive sport.
"More support is required for deprived communities to help sport become a career option, as it's often not seen as viable to pursue due to the support costs involved," Mr Mbaziira added.
One way in which parents can encourage their kids to start exercising outdoors is by investing in a garden trampoline, allowing their youngsters to feel the benefits of outdoor play at home.
