Trampolines better for stress than comfort eating
14/01/2011 An expert has urged Brits to start exercising outdoors, perhaps with the purchase of trampolines for the garden, as a means of combating stress and obesity.
A recent study by researchers at the University of Oxford found that the stress of living in countries such as Britain and America could be a major cause of people becoming obese.
Tam Fry, National Obesity Forum board member and chairman for the Child Growth Foundation, said that exercising outdoors, which could call for a garden trampoline, was a much better solution than snacking.
He explained that "going for a long, brisk walk and getting fresh air into the system" was more effective at relieving stress than comfort eating, though an energetic bounce on the trampoline may do even more good.
Earlier this week, Dharmesh Patel, chairman of the Eyecare Trust, said that regularly exercising outdoors was just as important to eye health as eating a diet rich in fruit and vegetables.
