Trampolines can be used for 'fun and health purposes'

20/09/2010 Trampolines can be used for fun but they are also great for getting fit and healthy, according to Shopoo.com.

The site explains that trampolines have been being built since 1900 and in the early years were normally used by circus performers.

In 1936, it became a modern sport after being developed by American gymnast George Nissen.

Four basic components are needed to build a trampoline - tubing, springs, a jumping mat and safety pads.

Tubing is used to make the frame and legs of the trampoline whereas the springs are used to achieve the bounce that is needed.

To make the jumping mats artificial fibres such as polyethylene or nylon are often used.

The fabrics are normally UV-protected to help them from fading if the trampoline is used outdoors.

Earlier this month, four gyms in Liverpool revealed they were going to celebrate a century of getting fit in the city. One of the events in the celebrations will be demonstrations from two members of England's trampoline team.ADNFCR-2359-ID-800072903-ADNFCR
