Trampolines for the garden 'could help UK beat obesity'
05/11/2010 Britain is facing an obesity crisis, with an ongoing "steep rise" in the number of families affected by weight issues, according to campaign group MEND, which could highlight the importance of trampolines for the garden.
Recent figures from Datamonitor revealed that two-thirds of UK households are classified overweight or obese – and it has been predicted that by 2014, as many as 16.5 million Brits could be in the obese category.
Paul Sacher, chief research and development officer at MEND, suggested that "prevention and early intervention" is the best strategy for combating the problem.
In addition to preparing nutritious meals, parents may be able to help their children feel the health benefits of outdoor play, by investing in trampolines for the garden.
"Investing in evidence-based healthy lifestyle solutions that can be tailored to meet local need is essential if we are to protect the health of our nation and stop the obesity crisis from getting any worse," Mr Sacher concluded.
