Trampolines help Hartlepool feel benefits of outdoor play
03/11/2010 Youngsters in the north east of England have been experiencing the benefits of outdoor play, as children were invited to bounce on trampolines as part of a special half-term event.
According to the Hartlepool Mail, a number of sessions were hosted by Hartlepool Trampoline Club, allowing kids aged seven to 16 to try something new and leave their school-holiday boredom at home.
Becky Smith, assistant sports development officer for Hartlepool Borough Council, told the newspaper that the trampoline sessions had been such a success, similar events would be held again in the future.
"It was something different for the children to do and they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We will be doing it again next year," she explained.
Last month, parents were urged to think about buying trampolines for the garden, as exercising outdoors can help children develop important life skills.
David Mbaziira, head of marketing and communications at Sporting Equals, suggested that outdoor play activities, such as bouncing on trampolines, can boost children's academic achievement.
