Trampolines help kids keep muscles toned
08/04/2011 Exercising outdoors on a trampoline is an excellent way for children to keep their bodies healthy and toned, allowing them to sit up straight and concentrate better in the classroom.
Speaking to the South African Independent, physiotherapist Pam Dawson explained how youngsters reluctant to engage in outdoor play activities were more likely to struggle with everyday school tasks.
In particular, she noted an increasing number of children with low muscle tone (LMT), a condition that may cause kids difficulty sitting upright, concentrating and controlling a pencil.
"The good news is that with early intervention, an LMT child can 'catch up' to his or her peers in a few years. In many cases, it is reversible," she told the newspaper.
Ms Dawson advised parents to encourage exercising outdoors and participation in sports to ensure that youngsters are keeping their muscles toned.
She specifically highlighted the benefits of outdoor play that trampolines for the garden can bring.
Last month, research by shopping search engine Twenga revealed that a growing number of families were rushing to purchase garden trampolines as the weather began to improve.
