Trampolines used to increase fitness in young children

10/12/2009
Trampolines are just one of the items being use in gym sessions created especially for children, reports the Wall Street Journal.

In an article about the growing trend in the US for toddlers to attend the gym, the newspaper said that trampolines were among the equipment used to provide an effective, yet fun, exercise environment.

Laura Berk, a child-development professor at Illinois State University, told the newspaper: "Kids encounter enough diversity in a typical home environment to help build motor skills. But these classes ingrain the idea of physical activity into kids from a young age, which is important."

The writer emphasised the element of family fun involved in the sessions.

While the craze has yet to take off in the UK, parents can get their children interested in exercise and create a fun and sociable atmosphere by installing some of the equipment in their own garden.

A trampoline is one item which will encourage your child to get outdoors and is a great form of exercise. Frequently jumping on a trampoline will improve balance, co ordination and body strength.
