Tree-themed area encourages outdoor play activities at Kew
19/02/2010 A tree-themed play area is being built at Kew Gardens to encourage children to take part in outdoor play activities.
Treehouse Towers will open on April 1st and will be located outside Climbers and Creepers, Kew's indoor play area, reports Horticulture Week.
Over 300 children can indulge in outdoor play activities in the area and it will feature giant swings, zip wires, scramble nets, slides and a mountaineering ramp.
There will also be a section where children can learn about different kinds of trees.
Treehouse Towers will be created from FSC-certified wood, with sponsor Velvet planting three trees for every one used.
It will be suitable for children aged between three and 11.
Kew Gardens holds a number of activities aimed at younger visitors including the Great Plant Hunt, an outdoor play activity which sees youngsters searching for different varieties of plant.
Parents can create fun play areas for their kids in their own back gardens by investing in equipment such as a swing sets and trampolines.
