UK trampoline champ reaches World Final

12/11/2009
The British trampoline champion James Higgins has qualified for tomorrow's (November 13th) World Championship final in trampoline, double mini trampoline and tumbling.

On Wednesday this week (November 11th) the World Championships began in St Petersburg, Russia.

Higgins was up against 80 men in the qualification round, which further cemented the Chinese domination in the event.

Four competitors from China sat in the top five positions in qualifying, and Olympic bronze medallist Dong Dong led the field.

"We are all delighted to have a representative in the individual finals. It is important Great Britain is represented and making a mark on the world stage," said Tim Jones, Olympic performance director of British Gymnastics.

He added that he hoped it will be the catalyst for even more success leading into London 2012.

British women's champion Kat Driscoll narrowly missed out on a final place after finishing 18th in qualifying.

Earlier this year, Higgins of Northampton made it three British titles in a row at the British Trampoline Championships.
