University lecturer picks up trampoline gold medals
13/12/2010 A university lecturer has scooped two gold medals at the British Gymnastics Veterans Championships.
Melissa Day, 28, took part in the event, which is designed for those who have stopped competing at international level.
She travelled to the championships, which were held in Suffolk, with her teammates from Kingston Trampoline Academy, based in Surrey, and won a team and individual gold.
"I certainly wasn't expecting to do that well. It was a great experience. I don't compete much these days, I spend more time coaching, and it was nice to be able to show the young people we coach that we still have what it takes to win medals," she told the Chichester Observer.
Ms Day is already planning on defending her title next year, adding that the pressure and expectation will be on her team to do well again.
Along with trampolining, there were also competitions run for men's and women's artistic, tumbling and acrobatic gymnastics at the event.
