Whole families should feel benefits of outdoor exercise
10/09/2009 Ambassador for mind, exercise, nutrition, do it (MEND) Jonathan Scott has been speaking about the organisation's ten-week healthy living programme.
MEND offers training courses for people who come into contact with overweight children so they can provide the best possible support.
Mr Scott said that the organisation teaches families about what healthy eating is and about healthy activities such as outdoor exercise as well.
"It is so important to get families involved as it is obviously the parents who need to initiate the change for their children in the first instance," he added.
He continued to say that getting the family involved in exercise helps motivate people and keeps them going.
MEND gives families the tools and knowledge to live healthy lifestyles, which the organisation believes will then last then for a lifetime.
Mr Scott said that kids need to bond with other youngsters in the same situation and that bonding with others was a key part of the programme.
Recent research by Bupa found that children should be taking part in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day in order to stay healthy.
