Women look to cancel gym memberships and do more exercising outdoors

06/01/2010
Women are increasingly cancelling their gym memberships and exercising outdoors and at home, according to Women's Fitness.

The comments from the fitness magazine come after a report from Mintel revealed than 23 per cent of people cancelled their gym memberships last year and a further six per cent plan to in the near future.

Joanna Knight, editor at Women's Fitness, explained that health is still important to women and they are prepared to spend money on staying in shape, but most are looking for something a bit different.

She said: "Women aren't just looking for ways to save money, they are trying to find new ways of exercising which energise and excite them more than their regular gym routines have previously."

Taking up the trampoline could be way one of spicing up a fitness regime in 2010. Those who have the time to put in can find classes at their local sports centres but those looking for a quick pick me up can invest in a mini trampoline.

Experts believe jumping on a trampoline is a 68 per cent more effective as a form of exercise than running.
