Young trampoline star gets surprise Olympic call-up
19/11/2009 A young trampoline star from Namibia has secured a wild card place at the first ever Youth Olympic Games - due to be held next year.
According to Namibia Sport, Michelle Solomons' selection in the university category came as a complete surprise to the Namibia Gymnastics Federation.
Her coach Vesko Kostin told the magazine: "Michelle has deserved this chance but we should all be thankful for the hard work of her predecessors such as Carl David Rautenbach and Alicia Kruger and many others, who paved the way during international competitions in the past."
The magazine went on to say that Michelle's award has guaranteed her a place at the Games, which are due to be held in Singapore, although she will still have to compete in the event's qualifying competition in March next year.
Last week, the British men's and women's tumbling teams and the men's double-mini team just missed out on the medals at the trampoline World Championships in St Petersburg.
